Zooby Introduces a Breedable

Zooby the creator of quality non-breedables has decided to turn their hand to a breedable. Lemurs, breedable monkeys is what that means. Breedable Monkeys!

Well Breedable Lemurs really, there hasn’t been any indication that there will be other breeds in the future, but there is a good chance I would imagine. There have been numerous small beta’s and the monkeys are fairly bug free, but today was the start of a larger beta with the hopes of release this month or next.

The Beta group has already been chosen and the monkeys are on fast forward for breeding purposes. There is also a fun and easy gem game that introduces traits in a very different way.
I own a Zooby Lemur and also an Emperor monkey from the Train-a-Pets line and I can’t wait to breed my first zooby baby monkey.

Gaia Breedables ~ Interview

Gaia Breedables is a Second Life Breedable with a second life. After releasing the original Gaia Bird (then named Chocobo) some time ago the V2 release has brought a new name, logo, marketing strategy and breeding system to the rather big bird that Gaia Engineer and his team have created. I hope you enjoy the interview below:

- What brought you to SL and how did you discover breedables?

I first came to SL because of my real life brother who constantly bragged about having a homestead and some thing called a Sion Chicken, so i decided to investigate.

- What inspired you to create a breedable and how did you choose what to create?

I decided when I saw the Sion Chicken and spent some time raising them my self, I wanted to create a new pet.

- Could you please list the members of your team and their positions?

- For the interest of SL jobseekers out there, do you have any job positions that need filling?

Yes, we have new positions opening up for Customer Service Representatives for all timezones.

- What have you found to be the biggest challenges and greatest rewards of bringing a new breedable to SL? (so far)

I have found the biggest challenge I have found during the project so far, was achieving features and updates within a certain amount of time. this is very difficult to do. The greatest reward though is when I have customers IM me or meet me at the store and tell me how much they love and adore the birds.

- What would you like to see more on in the breedables community?

I would like to see more people breeding the birds and growing their own food of course, but I would also like to see a lot more community interaction, I would like to hear from the community more often on what they like and dislike about my products and what they would like to change.

- How has the excitement of and suggestions from customers influenced your creations?

I thrive from the excitement that other people have about my products, and I take peoples suggestions and consider them very careful and some times I get a little bit over excited with ideas and ramble on about new things.

- Does a particular experience in the Second Life Community inspire you to keep going when you are discouraged?

Yes, when I get into a Q&A, and have people excited about trying to get my product more publicity I get really energized and really excited to continue the development and that really inspires me to carry on.

- What Gameplay is included and will this be developed further in the future?

Current Gameplay is as followed: Breeding – Breed the birds to get the colors that you want to collect. Farming – Grow mushrooms for your birds and feed them at a cheaper rate Riding – Ride you’re birds around the sim. Interacting – hug and hold your birds and enjoy their company All of the Gameplay features mentioned will be developed further in the future as well as additional features.

- What do you think makes your breedable stand out from the crowd?

The size of our birds I think makes us stand out from the crowd.

- What interactions are possible and do you consider it to be a Pet Game, Breedable or a combination?

I consider them to be a combination of both, pet games and breedable, you can currently cuddle with them and hold them when they are are of all ages, you can also ride them and grow food for them.

- If someone was undecided about your breedable, what would you say to convince them to give it a try?

I would ask them if they had questions about the birds that hadn’t been answered and then if they are still undecided I would then offer then a single bird for them to try.

- What are your plans for the future?

We have many many projects planed for the future of the Gaia birds, with many updates to come, including loads of new traits and even more things for a Gaia bird to have fun with including additional accessories.

- How long do you expect to be commiting to this project and with your breeders in mind, do you have a legacy plan?

I expect to be commited to the Gaia birds for a minimum of the next 5 years. Yes we do have a legacy plan coming into play with the current update that is coming out where old coats that work as a costume will continue to work regardless of the update.

The Drax Files ~ World Makers Episode 5 Engrama

I loved this episode of World Makers. Ionic is on my list of favourite stores and live music is one of my first loves in SL. I haven’t found time to go to a concert for a long time but when I found the live music scene in my early days I attended as many as I could. It was amazing to me that I could enjoy the thrill of live music, the vibe from the crowd and immediate interaction with the artist performing, in the comfort of my own home for free!

“Who says what is real and what is not real?” asks Argentine post-rocker Pupito Helstein about his experience playing in Barcelona one night and in the virtual world of Second Life the next morning.

The music group Engrama, which he founded with his girlfriend (Spanish drummer Lakua Arriaga) has fans from all over the world thanks to the possibilities afforded by a persistent digital universe populated by colorful avatars.

Engrama has been playing original songs (and covers by Sigur Ros, Radiohead among others) in clubs and on self-designed stages all over SL for the past four years.

The band’s followers have treasured unique live recordings (yes: approved bootlegs!) infused with memories of sharing an emotional experience and space (albeit one that is made of pixels perhaps, but nonetheless deeply connecting to heart and soul).

Music transcends cultural, geographical and sometimes even generational differences just as much as an open-ended virtual world can!

My Three SL Wishes Meme

I thought I would have a little fun for a change in the form of Strawberry Singh’s latest Meme. The instructions are: Share three things you wish for or about your Second Life. They could be things you wish from Linden Lab, things you would like to have inworld, things you would like to do, or any kind of wishes you may have.

When I first read the instructions I didn’t know if I would be able to think of anything. Then I read some other blogs and was inspired by others ideas, but as my own ideas came to the forefront it became hard to stop at just three lol. But here are my top three in no particular order.

1. Linden Lab ~ I wish SL was run as a competitive business, or game, or whatever it is… This could start the whole is SL a game argument but my point is that SL is not competitively fighting for it’s customers. It does seek new customers, but for LL to work to keep current customers, things would look very different. Personally I think it’s the longstanding members of SL that make the place what it is, people come and go and may or may not put money into SL. But what about the people that are committed to SL yet the costs eat away at their commitment. With the number of people owning sims still dropping from last year I can’t believe that there isn’t some discount/sale/price cut on membership and land ownership. With so many other competitively priced VW’s out there now and Opensim growing all the time it is very realistic for many people (and I know some) to use SL as a source of income while enjoying a full sim (with more prims than SL sims) ownership somewhere else for a fraction of the cost or on VW’s like Craft, for free.

2. I wish thing lasted longer ~ I always seem to be finding a great store or a great hang out spot and the next week it’s gone, or finding people to care about that decide to move on. Sometimes things don’t last long because it’s hard to find trustworthy people and that makes me sad too. I even had some of my inventory disappear recently, so I can’t even trust the things I purchase to hang around.

3. I wish I didn’t feel so inadequate ~ My abilities are very limited in some ways and I have far more ideas than I ever have the ability to bring to fulfilment. I lack graphic skills in general and building skills in sl. I feel like I could do so much more inworld, but my learning style limits me a great deal and so I stick to the one thing I feel capable doing, writing.

Amaretto ~ Cinco de Mayo Limited Editions

Amaretto have released a special Limited Edition Donkey in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday which celebrates the victory over French forces on May 5, 1862 at the Battle of Puebla. The LE’s are available in random single packs for 795L, or the full pack of three for 2300L. There is also the Limited Edition Cactus pack with 6 Breedable Food and 6 Salt Lick for 1700L. If you like the display you can take that home for 199L…

Amaretto have also announced the addition of Barrel Racing to events starting in May. Each race will go for one lap and available to all divisions.

SL’s First Annual Sand & Sea Expo

Oceania Breedables have organised a new yearly event, the Sand and Sea Expo. The first time event will begin 2nd May and continue until 5th May. There will be both beach and underwater settings for the participants in this 4 day expo with lots of great names signed up.

Sponsored by Oceania Breedables and coordinated by Nephelle Lanate & Cortez Brandriss (coordinators of the Breedables Fright Night Expo, the 2012 RFL Christmas Expo, and the 2013 Breedables Fair at the RFL Home and Garden Expo), the Sand & Sea Expo will feature products from all corners of water-loving SL: Surfing, Scuba, Mer, Sailing, Beachwear and more!

ABC ~ Growth and Employment Opportunities

I thought I would add this here because I am a big supporter of healthy growth in the breedables industry. Job opportunities are serious business and I can tell you I’ve heard every story under the sun and been involved with some of the situations that have revealed employees that have little to none talent but have gotten themselves into employment through lies and trickery. Finding good team members can make or break a breedable and it’s often hard to replace a vital team member because so many see a job in breedables as dishonest opportunity. My suggestion these days is to seek employees outside of SL. But I do have creators ask me if I know of needed team members at times, and if you are professional, experienced or qualified with a strong, honest work ethic I am happy to take an nc with needed information that I could pass on if anyone is asking. The most regularly needed positions are scripting and sculpting. Often the easiest way to get to know the people behind a breedable and if you would like to be involved in their company is to first seek a Customer Service position, which are often available fairly regularly as people come and go.

ABC has been growing steadily and with this growth we need to expand our team… Currently we have a strong Racing and Breeding Program along with two new programs announced and preparing to be released… Jousting and Quests. This is just the beginning of many new and exciting things to come.

The Drax Files ~ World Makers 4 Fantasy Faire/RFL

I only attended The Fantasy Faire for the first time in 2012, but after only one visit it is my favourite event of the year. So much beauty and creativity for such a great cause. The potential for charity events in SL is amazing, as people from all over the world can contribute to others needs. As an Australian and with many friends outside the US, my only regret is that (as far as I know) all RFL event money goes to the US instead of an international cause. This interview is great and it’s wonderful to meet one of the faces behind the great charity events in SL.
